little H

may2412_3
I didn't know a couple weeks ago when this special ring was ordered for me (thank you Mom for the gift and Raychel from Fruition Jewelry for your beautiful work) that it would arrive on the very day I had cried so many tears for my Hermie.

He is going to be okay, it is looking very good for him. As I write this he is in surgery. I have worried myself sick...taking photographs and blogging is a good distraction from earlier today, especially since he is in the very best hands and hopefully going to be feeling much better.

Hermie woke up early this morning in a significant amount of pain, as the morning progressed and after going to the emergency room at 4 am then to his regular doctor at 9 am, he started to decline and show neurological damage. This is very common in dogs with long backs...they have very long spines and have a lot of discs that can become herniated.

We feel very fortunate for the wonderful doctor who cares for him on a regular basis and his doctor doing the surgery today. It is frightening to make decisions on what is best for him and each one of them has been so kind, comforting and supportive.

Today also would've been my Gramma's 87th birthday. I think that's a good sign, her spirit is looking out for Mr. Hermie Monster.

for Christmas.

Time.

Hours to lay around watching Elf with my family, eating plain cheese pizza made from Kadee's hands, peeling oranges fresh from the tree, drinking eggnog and enjoying Pam's coconut baby cakes.

Rainy afternoons warmed by the fireplace Dad built, wrapping presents with Mom and watching Elf, again.

One whole evening with nothing else to do but decorate the tree, then fall asleep next to Case with the glow of Christmas lights softly illuminating the night.

Endless days of Sundays when places like the Post Office are closed and everyone knows the day is to rest.

Minutes that seamlessly pass into hours of knitting for no reason than just the satisfaction of the knit-knit-purl-knit-knit-purl.

The time to hibernate with Hermie like a wooly bear and her bear cub, to replenish, find new inspiration and catch up on all the sleep I missed this year.

...working away like one of Santa's elves for the big show

Unique LA is this weekend! There will be over 300 vendors selling their Made in America items and food for every single taste bud. I Heart Pies is one of my very favorites, I've been craving a chicken pot pie from them since Spring. I will be at Table 49 with glittered acorns, prints, cards, garlands, jewelry and ornaments.

My sister Kadee will be taking her big exam tomorrow. The one a future doctor takes between second and third year, it only determines mostly your whole future as a doctor.
june2111_4
In the family we have each gotten the privilege to assist her with food, cleaning, and kitty entertainment
during her long days of studying. In exchange we are promised personal medical advice and care forever.

My final job for this leg is to pack a healthy filling nontiring energizing lunch to be eaten on a break. Amidst the grapes, carrot, bit 'o honeys, trail mix and chicken and avocado sandwich will be her Tazo Iced Green Tea. It is a new obsession for us. Ever since the lady in front of me at the grocery store raved about it so much so that I had to go back the next day to get some to try for myself...the lady was right.

Tucked inside is a card I made for good luck and love and you are brilliant and you are enough and rest now...all in one. By tomorrow evening she will begin her long weekend of "summer break" before third
year begins on Monday.

My sister Pam is doing an encore ReNew, ReUse, ReCreate workshop at the Carlsbad Paper Source tonight. Old catalogs, calendars and boxes are recreated into tags, envelopes and card holders. She thought it would be fun to give a renewed favor to each participant. From a pile of old catalogs I created fan folded brooches and mini scalloped garlands.

There may still be space available if you are interested in signing up!

ow!
november1210_1
I have a cutter with a gigantic blade, like the old kind from elementary school workrooms that people tell you to be careful around because it could cut your fingers off. All is well today, it was yesterday that I was cutting and my brain didn't realize my left hand went in to adjust the paper while my right hand was already in motion. Nothing was cut off,  just a disgusting deep cut that sounds worse than it looks and makes friends and family cringe when I tell them what happened.

All  that cutting was in preparation for the Queen Bee Market which begins this evening and goes through tomorrow, so if you're in the San Diego area come visit, shop, and say hello to me and my bandaged hand.

new! Itty bitty sterling silver post earrings, so cute, I want to keep them all for myself.
