weekend

A nice surprise for me when I attended the vendor meeting for the upcoming Unique LA holiday show...my new deer cards are featured on the promotional postcard!  And that was in addition to being inspired by Sonja's talk and getting a delicious glazed donut while waiting in the lobby of the Grammy museum. If you are in the LA area or within a couple hours driving distance this show is very much worth it. The focus is quality unique handmade in America items! I do most all of my own holiday shopping just at this one event and sometimes you see celebrities, too! Spread the word....


Today Hermie and I snuggled and watched Big and then later E.T. which pretty much made it a perfect day...Hermie snuggles and good movies.

The most important thing this weekend was celebrating Mom's birthday. Celebrating Mom...who takes care of all of us and doesn't ask for anything in return only to delight in seeing us happy. In her sixty two years so far she has finally let us look out for her a bit and doesn't seem to mind having three daughters who act like three mothers sometimes. This year she had quite a scare with her skin cancer and I'm so grateful I got to take her to her appointments and support her when she was frightened by what could go wrong. Luckily it all went right.

Mom is truly my best friend, having a uniquely special relationship with each one of her girls. I can share any secret with her. She knows if I have a headache or if something is wrong within two words of a conversation, this always amazes me. She encourages me to create and continue to grow. I am me because of her.

Mom lets me know every single day how much I am loved and that is a gift I hold tightly to my heart.

sunday morning

Sunday morning's photo shoot...the sweetest girl I've known since she was just a first grader. She walked into my classroom with confidence and a brilliant light from within. Some people come into this world with that extra sparkle, she is one of those people. What a treat that she asked me to photograph her and her companion Paco. To spend the morning getting to know her as she is now, just as she was then, only more so.  

This will be remembered as one of my very favorite shoots, for many reasons...those eyes and smile and the natural ease in front of the camera (I could've photographed her all day), secondly I've never photographed a horse up close and personal...it was lovely and calming, and then there was just the right amount of sunshine and a light breeze in the gorgeous setting.

Before we started the session Paco was getting groomed from head to toe and I had the opportunity to pet his soft nose and take in his magnificent self, I can't believe I've lived my whole life without having done that before. 

...and then in a swish of Hermie's tail April said hello to May.

On Saturday it looked like the worms had been painting with watercolors, a lovely rainbow of shred and castings in the vermipost. It was so pretty that I called Case to see it and he quickly came over and admired the worm poop and old paper.

chocolate chunk banana bread cookies...grab that old banana on the counter and make these right away!

The beautiful lobby of the hotel where Pam's Art Institute graduation was held. I loved seeing her in her cap and gown and sharing in the happiness. After a bit of socializing and pictures Mom, Pam and I celebrated at The Cheesecake Factory and chatted about what is on the horizon. I do believe I fell asleep with a smile on my face just thinking about what a lovely day it was. Congratulations Pam!! xo

a soft purr



of slippered feet across the floor, heavy whipping cream whipped into peaks, a chilly breeze on Saturday morning, the sheets turning in the dryer, a kitten curled up with Mom, the hummingbird perched on a tiny branch just his size, the neighbor sweeping her front patio and my mind lost in memories of nine years ago, the before and the after.

week's end friday, saturday and sunday were full of all sorts of things like, cleaning, swimming, movie watching, pomegranate popsicles, bird chatter at the feeder, happy birthday singing, a slice of Mom's german chocolate cake, napping, a green tea jamba, freshly mowed grass and Case's kabobs

...

sunday in particular was perfectly warm and lazy, just like Hermie here (prepare yourself for total cuteness!)

three days three beautiful days...

...

on Saturday a five month old baby fell fast asleep in my arms and I toasted marshmallows with friends around the fire

...

on Sunday I laughed until I had tears, then laughed some more, a day celebrating Dad at the fair with the whole family, perfectly wonderful

...

on Monday a dear friend and I sat by the pool while her little ones took swim lessons and later Case, Hermie and I enjoyed dinner at the park
