My craft from the night.

Tonight Pam and I went to the Design Sponge event at West Elm. Grace was perfectly adorable from her black heeled booties to her lovely smile...just as you'd expect. I've been a fan of her work for many years, what a treat to get to see her in San Diego on her Design Sponge Book Tour. We made a craft, ate tiny cupcakes, met fellow Design Sponge fans, smiled in the Smilebooth and chatted with Grace while she signed our books.

Going to bed inspired and happy from such a wonderful evening.

                                                                          german chocolate birthday cake

This morning I took a walk with Dad and Hermie. I asked Dad about today, the day my older sister, the firstborn came into the world...her birthday!

Dad was in the Navy at the time and heard by telegram. He said he was so happy and excited to meet her
and shared his news with his Navy buddies. I like imagining Dad the day he found out he was a father. He would have to wait several months before he met his redheaded sweet perfectly beautiful baby.

Luckily Mom had dear friends to be with her while she settled into being a new mom. Most of Pam's early baby photos have sweet notes and dates written on the back from Mom to Dad. She would take pictures of Pam napping, stretching, napping some more...and send them to Dad.

Thinking about Mom capturing sweet newborn moments and tucking them into envelopes sealed with love makes me happy and teary-eyed at the same time.

Tonight all of us were under one roof, just as we once lived so long ago. I took a few polaroids and as they developed Mom wondered aloud where the time had gone, how did it go by so fast...

I don't know, but it just keeps going faster and faster.
Sometimes I just need it to slow down so I can soak it all in, before it is gone.

Happy Birthday Pam!!! xoxo

My sister Pam asked me to take some portraits for her website and future situations when someone asks
for a photo of her. She is an artist in every single way from hand drawn sketches to web design (<---a site she recently designed) and it was quite nice to have such a relaxing shoot. It doesn't get any easier than your very own sister who photographs beautifully and laughs and chats with you the whole time. I loved it, we could've been there all day. xo

fly july1510_1 july1510_2 ...with a carefree spirit, a soft pillow to fall back on when the days are very long, movies seen and movies yet to be seen with all of us, just the right amount of PHP, kitty pets, late night chats and sips of tea, a warm bath to nourish you right down to your bones, seeing that all your hard work is culminating into something brilliant, knowing that we will all be singing you a happy birthday in just a few days when the world stops spinning so fast.

Today we celebrated my older sister, Pam's, birthday. An evening of Mom's homemade chili, a german chocolate cake from scratch, gifts, and family.

She is a blueberry buckle baker, caretaker, shares all she's got and more, lover of green tea (long before it was the drink to drink), my older sister and best friend, she gives me advice late into the night, is always up for jacuzzi, thinks of others before they think of themselves, she remembers our past when I forget, delights in unusual chocolate bars, has the most beautiful handwriting and distinctive laugh, I love her, I was born and she was there... to hold my hand, support me, show me and love me. Here we are many moons later, and I don't know a life without her and wouldn't want to even imagine it.

7.05......Friends in high places . . . Case got an email from his childhood friend, Tyson, that he would be flying over our city on Sunday. He made sure to fly by and wave hello on his way to Los Angeles, I loved seeing both the Coast Guard helicopter circle above us and Case's face as he waved hello to his dear friend.

7.04......A cozy fourth with family, missing Pam as she was off on a trip the eve before and luckily saw an early fireworks show from the airport before flying off.

identity in progress
Pam has been working on some ideas for my mark/logo. Last week we narrowed down the font, which I really love. I am so excited to have my professional identity for the portrait photography side of my work. While I was meeting with her I snapped a few images of her workspace.
