not pie

After inquiring about the egg shaped wrinkly fruits on one farmer's table at the farmers' market I learned they were passion fruit. He opened one up and showed me the inside, it smelled wonderful! I immediately wanted to mix the fragrant sweet jelly with fresh strawberries and mangoes.

This recipe came together just from the desire for warm summer fruit pie with a scoop of ice cream but not wanting to make a crust and whole pie. So I used small casserole dishes and made two small crisps. To make a full crisp I would double this recipe.

Strawberry Mango Passion Crisp

Topping:
4 T granola (plain, honey or any flavor you would like to try)
2 T quick cook oatmeal
2 T brown sugar
1 T sugar
dash of fresh nutmeg
dash of salt
2 T chilled unsalted butter
1 T flour

Fruit:
1 1/2 baskets of strawberries (halved)
1 mango
2 passion fruits
2 T brown sugar
1 T sugar
1 T flour

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Choose 2 small baking dishes or one square or small pie plate.

Mix the ingredients for your topping all the way to butter, wait to use the flour at the end. Once you mix everything cut the butter into the mixture using a pastry cutter or two knives.

Mix the fruit in a separate bowl. To use the passion fruits cut in half with a bread knife and scoop out the insides to mix in with the strawberries and mango.

Scoop the fruit into your baking dishes. Toss the 1 T of flour from the topping list over fruit. Add topping mixture evenly on top.

Bake in the center of the oven for 15 minutes or until you see the fruit bubbling.

Cool for 1/2 hour and serve with a scoop of ice cream. These also refrigerate well and heat up in the oven the next day deliciously.

oops

cantaloupe Hermie ears
I seem to have much more success accidentally growing food than purposefully.

Some leaves sprouted from a bucket that was filled with extra soil, some of it must've been from out compost pile. So I planted the sprout in a container and have been watering it. It looked as if I had squash growing but now it has shown itself to be a cantaloupe!!

Cantaloupe is one of my favorite fruits, one that I never even thought about planting. It was also one of our kitty Ladybug's treats. Since we said goodbye to her earlier this month I haven't wanted to buy one at the store. What a lovely surprise to be growing one from one of our very own seeds instead.

Yesterday I opened up a Pinterest account.

Rainbowy Ray-Ban sunglasses were one of the first thing I pinned.

Today I'm wearing my new rainbowy sunglasses. An early birthday gift from Mom and Dad...thank you!

Wouldn't it be lovely if I woke up tomorrow and had all the items in my oh! things I fancy board?

Right now I am in the process of planning a redesign to the blog. It originally began as a daily project to experiment and develop my photography skills and subject matter.

Inside I am not attached to that intention for the blog anymore. I have grown since it began...so a change is inevitable.

I am looking into Wordpress and am overwhelmingly delighted by the options, although possibly a subtle, yet stunning update by Blog Milk would be just right. In the future I would like to offer prints for purchase so this morning was spent researching big cartel and E-junkie.

It would be wonderful to get your feedback on what you're using and happy with and why.

Please do tell.

Bug Bug

Our little Ladybug.

We kissed her goodbye one week ago today.

My pillow is not warm and fluffy anymore at bedtime.
The softness and sweetness is missing.
It is disturbingly quiet without her meow.

Grateful for this girl. Heartbroken without her.

...just being seems wonderful and amazing and heavy all at the same time

I was sitting outside the other day craving to inhale the scent of summer which would wash over me and then I'd be able to feel it within me. It has always been easy for me to stir up the carefreeness of summer. This year has been different, unexpected angst along with beautiful family gatherings and travels.

Ever grateful for all that I have and get to experience.

Ladybug, our fluffy girl who likes to sleep on my head, has become very sick in a very short time. We will know more in the coming days, in the meantime she is getting cantaloupe (her favorite), baby food and lots of love.

week old

toes.

This little bundle of pink was born just one week ago. This afternoon I got to photograph her one-week-oldness. Her mom and dad were fussing and cooing, snuggling and kissing and loving her up all throughout. They are already a wonderful team, each taking on different tasks to give her just what she wanted and needed. I could photograph her every single week!

France...sugar coated violet candies, Basilique St Sernin, warm panini sandwiches, Victor Hugo Market, La Garonne River, bike riding along the canals, tiny cups of coffee, Bastille Day, fireworks, beach days along the river, Pont Neuf, cassoulet, sweet nectarines, Lafayette Maison, filled donuts, sleeping in, violet and rose flavored gelato (everyday!), Jardin de Plantes, dinner beneath a brick ceiling with scientists from around the world, Capitole, crepes, chocolates sprinkled with violets, morning sauna, train ride, Carcassonne....a real castle, medieval cobblestones beneath our feet, blue skies, views of Greenland from the plane and a happy safe homecoming.

Jet lag isn't so bad when you have Hermies and Ladybugs to cuddle and dreams of France dancing in your head.
